The Dawn of Joy
30x40 oil on canvas, ©2007 by Mary Note Law
Mrs. Grimm lived in an apartment on the property of her son and daughter-in-law, my friends Mike and Bethann. Anytime that my kids or I came to visit, Mrs. Grimm stopped by to chat. She bustled with vibrance, radiating joy, warmth, and zest for life. A fellow artist, a fellow Hawaii-phile, I was always left smiling after our visits together.
When Mrs. Grimm journeyed home to Heaven, she sent palpable waves of joy to those of us who tuned in to her presence. As I sat in the back row of her funeral, holding space and praying for her and her family, an image of a magnificent, violet sunrise, casting light across the land, filled my consciousness. "Ahh, I got it!" I told her. "You were one of the early Indigos, sent to help usher a new Dawn of Joy!" The energy that I felt moving through me seemed to be the joyous Mrs. Grimm, confirming my awareness.
Then Mike walked to the podium. He began by saying, "My mother, Dawn Joy Grimm..." Well, what do you know! I had never known her by anything other than Mrs. Grimm, but Dawn Joy she was, and continues to be.
That was the beginning of this painting, which evolved in appearance over several meditations, building in layers of color and energies. But the baseline energy of this painting has been clear from the start-- it is about radiating joy, and supporting the joy of all in its field. I am grateful to Dawn Joy Grimm for guiding me to create this portal for joyful energy in physical form. I am grateful that she served as such a portal herself.
The technique which I began to use while painting Gabrielle, twisting and blending colors with a baby blanket, was used here as well. In these two paintings, the canvas was first coated in a thick layer of while paint, representing Divine Love, Christ Consciousness, Holy Spirit, and the spectrum of all colors. Then the blues, magentas, and violets were blended in, always carrying an element of the White with them.
Like Gabrielle, this painting emerged far different from the original image which I held in my mind. It seems that, for me, the images which appear in meditation serve as a starting point, and the painting then takes form as it is meant to, as I immerse myself in the sacred process of prayerfully putting paint onto canvas. The final result comes as a suprise to me, but not, I'm sure, to those in the non-physical plane who assisted me in its creation.
